IEEE Canada Women In Engineering Prize

General   One prize each year, value $1,000.

Background   This prize is sponsored by the Judy Clift Fund which was established to honour a gracious individual who believed strongly in gender equality.   Her professional life as a special education teacher and administrator complemented her role as a mother who was determined to raise her daughters with independence and encouraged them to pursue career opportunities that were not limited by gender.   She was also incredibly supportive of volunteer IEEE activities.

Purpose   To recognize excellence in young women engineering professionals and to support the Women In Engineering programme within IEEE in Canada.   We encourage anyone who supports these objectives to direct additional donations to this fund to increase the value of the annual award.

Eligibility   All female IEEE Canada members who received their first professional degree within the last fifteen years and who are active in IEEE activities.

Nominations   Nominations are sought from members and volunteer leaders, especially in Women In Engineering and Young Professionals affinity groups, at the local (Section) and national (IEEE Canada) level.   Nominations are to be made using the nomination form on the Applications and Nominations page. There should not be more than one nominator per candidate.

Basis of Selection
Nominations will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
1. Substantial success in their undergraduate program
2. Demonstrated interest in extracurricular interests
3. Demonstrated volunteer service to IEEE
4. Involvement in either IEEE Young Professionals or WIE programs

The Decision Process   The Grants Committee of the IEEE Canadian Foundation will review and rank the nominations, and forward their recomendations to the Board of Directors of the IEEE Canadian Foundation, who will determine the recipient at their first meeting of each year, normally held in early April.

Payment   Payment will be made directly to the individual.

Certificate   A framed certificate will be presented to the Prize winner by the Section Chair at a suitable IEEE Section or National Meeting.

Important Dates   The deadline for receiving nominations is March 15.   The recipient will be notified within a week following the Board meeting.
