Obituary for William M. Lower

William Matthew (Bill) Lower MBE, BSC, PEng.

Passed away peacefully January 12th, 2002 in his 83rd year after a long illness. Born and educated in Toronto, he served in WWII as an RCAF officer in command of an RAF Mobile Radar Unit in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Following his return, he graduated from U of T in Engineering Physics and worked in the electronics industry. Truly a proud Canadian, Bill's career emphasized the growth of business and technology in Canada. Always encouraging the spirit of engineering in Ontario, through organizations such as the APEO and IEEE, he was committed to the support and education of up and coming engineers. He continued with his involvement until his illness mid 2001.

An avid cottager on the Severn River, Bill participated in the local community, particularly with boating safety, through the Severn River Assoc. of Property Owners. In later years the cottage became a focal point for his entire family. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 55 years, Mary (Sery). Loving father to daughter Leslie & husband Dr. Larry Greenland, daughter Diane & husband Alan Edney, son David & wife Kathy (Redmond). Dearly loved by his 13 grandchildren, extended family and many friends.

A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held Sat Jan. 19th, 2 pm, St. Theodore of Canterbury Church, 111 Cactus Ave., North York (south of Steeles, west of Yonge). The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
